BHS CPD Workshop – Coaching Through Disabilities

Date: 30/09/19 (Monday)
Time: All Day
Location: RDA National Training Centre

Increasingly BHS coaches are approached by clients who need understanding and support of a disability whilst still wanting to ride, compete or engage with horses. After all, one in five people have a long-standing, limiting disability or life-changing condition such as Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, sight loss, spinal or head injuries. The para-equestrian pathways are being actively promoted and this workshop will help coaches understand the structure of disability sport different levels as well as signposting to a range of coaching resources and disability organisations.

This one-day unmounted CPD workshop is an introduction to this huge topic, helping to signpost coaches to a range of practical resources about different disabilities and safe, thoughtful practices.

The workshop will focus on life-changing illnesses and injuries in adults, the benefits of riding and interaction with horses, and discussion about the practical issues of coaching them. A follow up workshop will cover more complex coaching situations such as supporting people with multiple disabilities and children with special needs.

The workshops are being held at RDA centres where possible, and there are benefits to local RDA coaches and trustees joining in this interactive workshop alongside local equestrian coaches. For further information please contact Liz Morrison via email to on 07860 637449 or visit the website
