RDA Health & Safety Training – Course Overview 

What is this training? 

This essential course is designed for RDA coaches, trustees, and volunteers to strengthen knowledge, confidence, and compliance in creating safe, supportive environments for all.  

Delivered with support from Howden Insurance Brokers, this full-day workshop is part of a new national series and led by Clare Gabriel, an experienced HSE professional with over 30 years in the discipline.   

Course Content 

Part 1: Risk Assessment  

  •  Introduction to Health & Safety law and responsibilities 
  • Understanding what risk assessments are and why they are vital 

The 5-step risk assessment process:  

  • Identify hazards  
  • Decide who might be harmed and how 
  • Evaluate risks and control measures 
  • Record and communicate findings 
  • Review regularly 
  • Practical exercises to embed learning 

Part 2: Incident Reporting and Investigation 

  • What incidents and near misses are 
  • Why reporting and recording incidents is critical  
  • RDA’s incident recording and reporting process 

How to investigate incidents thoroughly:  

  • Gather information and witness accounts  
  • Establish facts and identify contributing factors 
  • Find root causes and determine corrective actions 
  • Review effectiveness to prevent recurrence
