As we prepare for Trustees Week 2024, we’re excited to challenge some of the common misconceptions about becoming a Trustee. Research by Reach Volunteering and Trustee Works in 2022 highlighted several myths that often deter people from stepping into this role—but at RDA, becoming a Trustee can be incredibly rewarding!

Here are some of the myths we’re keen to debunk:

•      “I don’t have the skills needed.”
•      “I’m too young.”
•      “I’m not qualified or senior enough.”
•      “I don’t have time.”
•      “My access needs can’t be accommodated.”
•      “I thought you had to be invited.”
•      “I need to be involved with RDA before becoming a Trustee.”

We’re looking for RDA Trustees – both at group and national level to share their experiences and show that these myths simply don’t hold up. We want to highlight that anyone with passion, commitment, and a desire to make a difference can contribute as a trustee within our communities and help enrich lives through horses.  

So whether you’re a disabled person, balancing a career or family life, bringing personal or lived experiences to the table, an aspiring young professional, current or former RDA participant —your story has the power to inspire others.
